After leaving Waikato University with a science degree in physics and chemistry Andy worked as a research assistant in the design and production of colouring grading equipment for blueberries.

His parents encouraged Andy to enrol in the Post Graduate Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology at Lincoln University. Being slightly more allured by the prospect of a ski season he departed for the South Island.

In 2000 Andy completed his first vintage at Church Road Winery. After vintage Andy left for Oregon to work with Pinot Noir, gaining insight into traditional winemaking techniques. Andy returned to the Southern Hemisphere and went to South Australia in 2001, working as a vintage winemaker in the Riverlandıs learning more modern techniques. Having become skilled at the best of both worlds, Andy has successfully combined traditional practices with modern flair.

After Australia Andy worked as a flying winemaker in Southern France in the Languedoc, working extensively with Syrah. Two years after leaving the Hawkeıs Bay he returned to work at Te Awa Farm Winery. Andy then left again for Europe to work in Northern and Central Italy under Owen Bird, returning to NZ in early 2003 to begin work with his friend Ben Morris as assistant winemaker at Lincoln Vineyards.

Andy decided to return to Italy in 2003 and 2004 to gain experience with vintage in Southern and Northern Italy for Owen. Finally returning this year, Andy gained the role of winemaker at Lincoln as Ben pursued his passion for sailing, who has continued consulting with Andy through vintage.

Of the factors that sculpture a winemakerıs style, Andy believes the greatest are the people you work with and of course learn from. Andy believes he has been very lucky working under some very talented winemakers, and would like to impart his vision of that wisdom in the wine he creates.
